Changes to UK NGCS call charges

To make it easier to understand how much a call to a non-geographic number costs, Ofcom has introduced some important changes, the details of which can be accessed in full at ukcalling.info.

From 01 July 2015, the following key changes to NGCS call costs apply:

Service Numbers (Special Numbers)

To call 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers, the charge will be made up of two parts – a service charge and an access charge.

The service charge is decided by the whoever, or whatever organisation, is responsible for offering the number being called. The charge will be made clear at the appropriate opportunity.

The access charge is decided by the caller’s phone service provider and will be confirmed directly to the caller by the provider.

The total cost of the call will be comprised of both charges.

Freephone Numbers

0800 and 0808 numbers – typically referred to as Freephone numbers – will now be free to call from a mobile phone.

The Changes to Onecom’s NGCS Call Charges

From 01 July 2015:

Onecom’s Standard Access Charge for NGCS calling will be 4 pence per minute (excluding VAT).

0800/0808 Freephone numbers will carry a Mobile Originating Levy of 3 pence per minute (excluding VAT) in addition to the standard Freephone rate.
