Introduction
Equimins is a UK-based supplier of high-quality equine and animal nutrition products. With a reputation built on innovation and trust, Equimins provides supplements and health solutions to support animal wellbeing and performance. The company is dedicated to integrating scientific knowledge with practical expertise, serving customers across the agricultural and equestrian sectors.
The Challenge
Equimins was operating with an ageing IT infrastructure that had begun to hold the business back. Legacy servers were still being used to run file storage and Sage data, with a complex DFS replication setup linking a second site. This increased the risk of data issues and added unnecessary complexity to day-to-day operations.
At the same time, many of the PCs in use were incompatible with Windows 11, leaving the business exposed ahead of Windows 10 end-of-life. Security and compliance gaps were also present, with no centralised endpoint management in place.
Additionally, the IT support Equimins had in place before engaging Onecom was highly reactive, leading to frustrations across the business. There was no proactive planning or regular maintenance, which left the company vulnerable and without clear direction.
To continue serving customers effectively, Equimins needed a trusted partner to refresh its IT, improve reliability, and move towards a cloud-first model — all without disrupting business operations.
The Solution
Onecom worked closely with Equimins to design and deliver a tailored IT Managed Services solution focused on modernisation, security, and scalability. The project began with a complete refresh of the network, replacing legacy switches and Wi-Fi with UniFi equipment to provide stronger coverage and easier management. The existing router was upgraded and configured to ensure a more reliable, secure connection across the business.
The core of the transformation centred on migrating Equimins to a cloud-first environment. Over 700GB of data was moved into SharePoint Online, supported by Zeedrive to give staff an intuitive, familiar way to access files. Devices were brought under central management through Microsoft Intune, with security and compliance policies enforced and multi-factor authentication rolled out.
To ensure the IT environment was fully future-proof, Onecom also supplied and configured new Windows 11-compatible desktops, replacing older, unsupported hardware. Printers were reconfigured following the decommission of the on-premises server, while the second site was enabled to access data directly via SharePoint, removing the need for DFS replication. With Microsoft 365 Business Premium licensing implemented across the business, Equimins now benefits from enhanced productivity tools, advanced security features, and a scalable platform for growth.
It’s made day-to-day life so much easier - everything simply works as it should. I no longer have to waste time searching online for fixes, and if anything ever does crop up, help is just a quick call away.

The Result
Equimins achieved a smooth, secure transition to the cloud with zero downtime. The business now operates on a modern, reliable infrastructure that is centrally managed and built for the future. Security has been significantly enhanced, with Intune, Microsoft Defender, and ThreatDown EDR all configured in line with UK Cyber Essentials.
Staff productivity has improved, with employees enjoying a consistent experience whether in the office or working remotely. The hardware refresh and Windows 11 upgrades have removed end-of-life risks, giving the business a future-proof foundation. Day-to-day IT support is now simpler too, with centralised services reducing complexity and enabling faster resolution of any issues.
The entire transition was managed brilliantly and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. It was a well-organised, stress-free process that made a real difference to how we work day to day.

Looking Ahead
With its IT environment now stable, modern and cloud-first, Equimins is focused on maintaining business-as-usual while continuing to strengthen resilience. Onecom will provide proactive monitoring, cybersecurity oversight, and lifecycle management to ensure the estate stays secure and efficient. Looking ahead, the priority is to keep systems running smoothly, refresh devices as needed, and stay ahead of emerging cyber threats. This partnership gives Equimins confidence that IT will continue to “just work” in the background, enabling staff to focus fully on customers and business growth.
The great thing about this migration is now it’s done, it just ticks over nicely. Staff have a seamless experience, and Equimins now has the confidence that everything will keep running smoothly.
