Event Recap: Investing in Infrastructure Cyber Security Workshop – Onecom in collaboration with Southwest Police Cyber Crime Unit

Onecom, UK’s largest independent business telecoms provider , ,

As cyber threats continue to grow in scale and complexity, the need for robust, proactive defence strategies has never been greater. That’s why Onecom brought together leading voices in cybersecurity for an exclusive event in Swindon, in partnership with the South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit and ThreatDown.

The event was designed to give attendees not just insight, but real-world tools to strengthen their organisation’s cyber resilience. From interactive challenges to expert-led sessions, the day was packed with practical value.

Kicking off the day, Onecom CEO Martin Flick set the tone with an opening address that underlined why cybersecurity is a critical focus for the businesses we support:

“Cybersecurity isn’t just a technology issue, it’s a business imperative. Every organisation, no matter its size, needs to understand the risks it faces and take active steps to build resilience. It’s not if – it’s when. And how well you’re prepared. Events like these are about empowering people with the knowledge and confidence to do just that.” – Martin Flick, CEO, Onecom

Attendees then took part in the Cyber Defence Challenge, an engaging, hands-on session led by the South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit. Using a fictional LEGO company as the backdrop, participants faced simulated cyber-attacks in real time, learning how to detect, respond to, and recover from incidents under pressure.

The afternoon session featured Brian Kane from ThreatDown, who delivered a deep dive into infrastructure security. Brian outlined the most common vulnerabilities across networks and endpoints, and shared actionable advice to help organisations reduce their attack surface.

Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to network with cybersecurity experts from Onecom, ThreatDown and the Cyber Crime Unit, gaining direct access to insight and support tailored to their specific industries.
