We’ve just completed some research to find out how small and medium-sized businesses (SME’s) intend to make the most out of the ongoing 5G roll-out. A whopping 72% believe 5G will make them more efficient and successful, which helps to explain why 22% plan to upgrade to 5G as soon as it becomes available to them — with a further 43% within six months.
|When do you think your SME will upgrade to 5G||Percentage of SMEs who think they will upgrade to 5G during this time period|
|As soon as it becomes available||22%|
|Within three months of it becoming available||23%|
|Three to six months of it becoming available||20%|
|Six to 12 months of it becoming available||12%|
|Over a year after it becomes available||7%|
5G is the fifth generation of mobile networks and is much faster, more reliable and offers higher capacity than both 3G and 4G. Major telecom operators are currently rolling out their 5G services across key cities in the UK, including Cardiff, Bristol and Glasgow.
The urgency amongst SMEs to start using 5G is due to the benefits they expect it will bring. 36% believe it will improve staff productivity, 36% think it will enable employees to work more flexibly, and 30% hope it will help them reduce costs.
Ben Dowd, Onecom CEO, said: “There is a lot of excitement around 5G, and we are certainly seeing growing interest from our clients in how this could boost their business and operations. The opportunities 5G brings are compelling, but companies need to assess their specific needs first and how this new technology could meet these. The benefits of 5G will come as a result of an evolution as opposed to a revolution.”
Onecom and 5G?
With 5G, we can help businesses get better connected, much faster. Offering a range of 5G devices, we enable our customers to gain access to the next generation of mobile technology.
Specialising in offering SMEs with 5G mobile devices, we also provide the Vodafone 5G GigaCube, connecting all their employees from one space to 5G.
However, not everyone can access 5G just yet. You need to be in a city that is 5G ready – but there’s more to come over the next 12 months.
